Traveling can be such an exhausting experience. So exhaustive that sometimes when we return home, we are glad to get back to normal life. But leading up to a trip can be fun and exciting, filled with a little anticipation and a whole lot of preparation. Here are some things to consider when you are planning on taking your next trip.
There are a lot of options when it comes to travel today. If you are planning a trip to a country you have never been to before, you may want to consult with a professional travel agent. They will be able to alert you to any special information you may need such as customs, weather patters, and needed vaccinations.
If you are traveling with a companion but you do not normally share funds, consider having a joint wallet, for expenses like meals, travel and lodging. You and your companion can add the same amount of money to the joint wallet each day. This way, you aren’t constantly splitting bills or exchanging money.
If you are traveling overnight or into the early morning, get your doctor’s permission to take a sleeping pill after you board. Eat your breakfast and then drift off to dreamland, and you’ll sleep comfortably through the whole flight. Wait until you are airborne to take your pill though, in case your flight is delayed or must return to the gate.
You may want to use the restroom before boarding the plane, if possible. You will be much more comfortable using a restroom that is on steady ground and that has a good amount of room to move around. Once on the plane, you never know how long someone will need the restroom and you don’t want to take that chance.
The shoes you wear when you go flying should be comfortable, lightweight, and easy to take off and put on. They will have to be taken off when you reach the security checkpoint. The number one concern is comfort. When traveling by plane, you do not need shoes that offer a great deal of support; you will spend most of your time sitting. Therefore, it is smart to wear sandals or flip-flops when flying.
Carry something with you that has the information for your hotel, like a matchbook or a business card. Having this will be helpful, should you become lost. Show someone the address and they can direct you back to the hotel. This simple precaution goes a long way to make up for whatever you lack in speaking the local language.
Off-hour flights can be made bearable with the help of sleep aids. Many people cannot sleep on a plane because of the unfamiliar surroundings, the uncomfortable seats, and the noise from the plane and passengers. Try using a sleeping pill for going to sleep, so that you can have an easier flight. Don’t take any pills until after the plan has taken off. If there is an issue or delay you would be sleeping in the terminal!
When packing toiletries for your carry-on, make sure to follow the 3-1-1 rule (3 oz bottles, 1 quart-sized Ziploc per passenger). Having your toiletries ready to go in a designated bag will make getting through security a breeze and have you on your way to your destination in no time.
If you put these tips into place, you can avoid so many of the frustrations, anxieties, and sleepless nights that come along with planning a trip. Rest assured that you will be ready and prepared come departure day. There is no need to spend so much time worrying.
